We are looking for a Senior Data Architect to join our team and lead performance optimization and architectural improvements within our Snowflake-based data environment. Our custom Java application dynamically generates complex queries on Snowflake, so the focus is both on optimizing query structures and improving warehouse performance. The consultant will work on a legally mandated application that delivers data to authorities, making accuracy and speed critical.
Responsibilities:
Identify the most expensive and slowest queries in our application
Review current warehouse configuration for scaling and sizing
Document and implement quick wins for immediate performance improvements
Advise on data models, clustering keys, and caching strategies
Analyze and optimize dynamically generated queries
Evaluate and reduce costs associated with Amazon-based data operations
Write documentation and user stories for the development squad
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams
Ensure data accuracy and performance in a legally sensitive application
Requirements & Qualifications:
Proven hands-on experience with Snowflake in large-scale, production-level environments
Advanced SQL tuning and query performance optimization skills
In-depth knowledge of Snowflake architecture, virtual warehouses, caching, and scaling
Ability to analyze cost drivers and propose efficient compute/storage usage
Experience with AWS-integrated Snowflake environments
Familiarity with query profiling tools and cost/performance analysis
Strong communication skills to present insights to technical and business stakeholders
Ability to resolve complex performance issues in Snowflake queries and configurations
Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus)
Minimum 3 years of experience in a relevant role within a complex environment

Experience in complex, large-scale environments

Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills
Nice to have skills:
Experience working with offshore teams (e.g., Infosys India)
Background in utilities, banking, or large enterprise environments
Familiarity with performance optimization in Amazon-based data landscapes
